How a long-established Worthing nursery chose Three Girls Media specifically for our years of experience building nursery websites, and got a site as warm as the setting itself.
Parents choosing a nursery are making one of the most personal decisions they’ll make for their family, and they’re making it partly from a website, long before they ever walk through the door. For a nursery that has been trusted by families for decades, a website that doesn’t reflect that history is a genuine liability, not just an inconvenience.
Hedgehog House Nursery has been that trusted, home-from-home setting in Worthing since 1987. It’s a small, independent, family-run nursery with a long-established staff team, the kind of place where children and staff genuinely get to know each other over years, not terms, and where that continuity gives children the secure foundation the nursery is built around. That continuity is the whole point of the business, and it’s exactly the kind of thing that’s easy to feel in person and very hard to convey on a website built by an agency that doesn’t understand the sector.
That’s why Hedgehog House came to Three Girls Media specifically. We’ve been designing nursery websites since 2008, and by the time Hedgehog House needed a new site, that depth of sector experience, not just a portfolio of nice-looking brochure sites, was the reason they chose us over a generalist agency. A nursery that’s been operating since 1987 has seen agencies and web trends come and go, and Hedgehog House wanted a partner who understood early years education itself, not just website design in the abstract.
The brief was to build a website that felt as warm and settled as the nursery itself, reassuring a parent researching childcare options that they’d found somewhere their child would genuinely be looked after, without resorting to the generic stock photography of smiling children that most nursery websites fall back on.
We started with tone before structure, because a nursery website has one job above everything else: make an anxious parent feel it’s safe to leave their child there. Every design decision, the colours, the imagery, the pacing of the copy, was built around that feeling rather than around what looked most striking in a portfolio.
Structurally, we built the site the way a parent actually researches a nursery, not the way the nursery is run day to day: the ethos and setting up front, the team and their long tenure
given real weight since continuity of care is Hedgehog House’s genuine differentiator, and practical information, fees, opening hours, how to arrange a visit, kept easy to find rather than buried behind a contact form.
Eighteen years of building nursery websites has taught us what parents actually look for when they land on a page like this, and what nursery managers wish their website did for them: fewer repeated phone calls answering the same questions, and a steady stream of enquiries who have already decided they like what they’ve seen before they call. We built Hedgehog House’s site with that experience behind every decision, not as a generic template with a new logo dropped on top of somebody else’s design.
That sector-specific experience covers more than just the homepage. We know from more than a hundred nursery projects which pages a parent actually reads before enquiring, which ones they skip entirely, and which single missing piece of information, a fee, a policy, an Ofsted rating, is most likely to send them looking at a competitor instead. We built Hedgehog House’s site with those lessons already applied, rather than learning them again from scratch on their behalf.
We also kept the build itself straightforward for the nursery’s own team to manage day to day. A small, family-run nursery doesn’t have a marketing department to call on, so updating a menu, a policy document or an intake date needed to be something the manager could do herself in minutes, not something that required calling an agency and waiting a week.
The result is a website that does what nearly forty years of reputation in Worthing deserves: it presents Hedgehog House the way parents already experience it in person, warm, settled, and clearly run by people who know exactly what they’re doing.
Hedgehog House now has a website that matches decades of trust with a digital presence built specifically for the nursery sector, not adapted from a template built for somebody else’s business entirely.
A parent researching childcare in Worthing gets the same sense of continuity and care online that families who’ve sent more than one child through Hedgehog House already know in person.
Three Girls Media designed and built the site, drawing on nearly two decades of nursery web design experience, and it remains live today as the nursery’s main point of contact for new families.
We’ve built more than a hundred nursery and school websites since 2008, understanding the yearly pressure of filling places and what actually turns parent research into enquiries. Get in touch through https://threegirlsmedia.co.uk/contact/ to talk about your project.
